Who should attend

Any delegates who are likely to come in contact with electrical equipment track-side, mandatory for Signalling Team Leaders and recommended for installation, maintenance, fault finding, testing and groundworks staff who may come close to or touch cables/wires.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the basic requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Be aware of Network Rail regulations regarding working with electricity within location cases
  • Generally understand the dangers of working with electricity
  • Understand the requirements for live working on or near signalling power distribution equipment above 175 V
  • Understand the safe working practices when working on or near signalling equipment
  • Be aware of the correct PPE to be worn when working in trough routes, cable trays and when pulling cables
  • Be aware of the dangers of electricity in work and home environments
  • Be aware of the correct test equipment to work in or near location cases
  • Understand who is permitted to take test measurements on live equipment
  • Understand electrical safety and how to isolate electrical equipment and check that is it dead

Learning approach

Classroom-based with proactive team discussions, PowerPoint presentations and video sessions.
Theory assessment to gauge the understanding of the delegate.

Pre-requisites

A basic understanding of electrical principles is ideal.
