Who should attend

This course is suitable for delegates who wish to obtain a basic level of knowledge in relation to carrying out engineering work on or near Network Rail's infrastructure.

Objectives

On successful completion of the course, delegates will have covered the following areas:

  • Basic understanding of railway infrastructure and operational equipment
  • Overview of safety requirements to go on or near the line
  • The roles and responsibilities of different engineering disciplines
  • Summary of control systems used in the UK
  • Information regarding structures - bridges, platforms and access points
  • Outline of railway related documentation and instructions
  • General principles of traction and rolling stock
  • Basic railway legal requirements
  • Electrification

Learning approach

100% classroom-based with PowerPoint presentations and visual aids, where possible a short visit either to a simulated track area or working railway.
Theory assessment to check the delegate's understanding of the course content
